Stephanie Bunn is an anthropologist with a background as a willow worker and felt-maker. She now lectures in Social Anthropology at the University of St Andrews, Scotland, and conducts research through practice into Central Asian felt textiles and basketry worldwide. She collected and co-curated the first ever British Museum exhibition of Kyrgyz felt textiles, is author of Nomadic Felt (British Museum Press), editor of Anthropology and Beauty (Routledge) and co-editor with Victoria Mitchell of The Material Culture of Basketry (Bloomsbury). She has curated numerous exhibitions during her research, and has coordinated the Woven Communities Project www.wovencommunities.org , working with the Scottish Basketmakers Circle and Scottish museums for the past 10 years. Her current research is about the dynamic relationship between hands-on basket-work and human cognition.
