Geraldine Jones

I started out 30 years ago as a self employed  basketmaker of traditional and functional baskets and have been exploring basketweaving techniques ever since. I find the craft of basketry endlessly fascinating and have always enjoyed experimenting with various materials and different techniques and being surprised by unexpected results.

I am currently working with stainless steel wire rope (courtesy of S3i), using a cycloid weaving technique still practised in Borneo though in danger of disappearing, along with many other basketry techniques the world over.

I am not a mathematician, an academic or a methodical researcher but am pleased to be able to share my experiences with the F.I.T team and hope that they will be able to interpret some of my pieces of work which often come about more by accident than design.
